A deep well.
– no bucket.
An astonishing word.

Water can be drawn;
can be drunk of deeply;
can refresh,
Not just for a minute
an hour,
a day.
But for eternity.

Life and Love endures,
even in a wilderness.
Not one of sand and sun.
One of barrenness with-in.
Where self-made landmarks like oasis’ fade in and out of view –
misplaced imaginings, deceiving eye and heart.

Not all is dreams,
there in that desolation,
scarcely a step away,
can be seen the sign.
The sign,
strong in presence,
unwavering in purpose,
ancient yet ever new.

Strength in vulnerability;
Hope in death;
Rejoicing in despair.
A cross which is right not wrong;
righting all wrongs
before and since.

Not the foolishness of sandy notions
but Love built on a firm rock –
the will of God.

Matthew 7:24-29; John 3:16; John 4:6-28; 1 Corinthians 1:18-31; Ephesians 5:15-17.
